Music

I make music. Sometimes. I play bass, and sometimes people think it’s cool to have me sing backup vocals, too. Sometimes they can convince me. Mostly they can’t.

Having started my first band with my brother back in 2000, I’ve joined numerous bands and projects ever since, playing almost every genre (and every cover song) you can think of. It’s weird to realize that I’ve been actively engaged in writing ~100 songs that ~99.9% of the world population have never even heard. Fair enough. The reason I started playing bass is even weirder, but you can ask me about this in person.

Having spent the most part of my musical “career” (which is an exaggerated overstatement) merely as a band member, I met this cool dude Justin Pearson in 2015, whose work and engagement, not only with his label Three One G, totally started something within myself. I never felt like joining any kind of gang/squad/collective, but from that point on I kinda knew I wanted to expand my activities within the music community not only as a musician:

mvI wanted to actively contribute to make the music scene an even more awesome place, to help the people who put up all those incredible shows that most of us attend as spectators and leave happily enchanted – but only few of us really know what an amount of organizational work, what a tremendous amount of time, effort and heartfelt work is happening behind the scenes to make both the artists and the audience happy for one evening. Several times a week. You just don’t go to shows and everything pops up out of nowhere. I wanted to “give back” what I’ve been offered during the past 15 years. It just clicked. So I started volunteering at Nuremberg’s Musikverein at K4 – not exclusively because of, but definitely influenced by the fact that it’s the place I got to see the raddest shows and discover awesome new bands at – and it’s easily one of the best decisions I’ve made in years. Not only because the logo contains a cat, by the way.

I currently play a 4 string plexi bass guitar, which is a Dan Armstrong copy by Conrad from the 70s. I also play a blue Sandberg California VM4. I love them both as much as you can love inanimate objects.

For the perfect bzzzzrrrrr sound I use an analog Pre-Amp, the Microtubes B7K by Darkglass Electronics.

I have a huge thing for the creative work of Jesse Keeler, too, but that’s another topic.
