I shot a studio session of James Welburn and Tomas Järmyr at Øra Studio the other day, which was an interesting experience for me since this was the first time I tried this on 35mm film. It fit the setting though, because – why not try to capture experimental music with an experimental photographic approach as well?
Due to the typical artificial studio lighting I brought films with 3 different film speeds (ISO 200, 400 and 800). The 200s ended up being super blurry, the 800s came out overly grainy – the best results came from the 400s. I shot everything without a flash, which is the best way to co-join a gathering you want to document rather than distract.
And here’s what I got out.
